THE PUBLIC FARMER FORUM TOWARDS REBUILDING UKRAINE

Ukraine obtained the long-awaited EU official candidate status this year. Considering the outlook of joining Ukraine to the EU, where small family farmers play a key role and will continue to do so in food security under the global climate change, recognizing the role and importance of Ukrainian family farms as strategic food producers and guaranteeing the national food security takes center stage in the agenda of the post-war reconstruction of the country.

The development of family farming in Ukraine requires special attention and support from the state and society. The voice of small peasant and farming households needs to be heard and their interests to be considered both at the national and international levels. Thus, the two-day Public Forum «Small Peasant Farms and Farming Households in Wartime and Post-War Reconstruction of Ukraine: Political Dialogue» will be organized on the initiative of civil society and with the participation of FAO REU.

Among the members of the Forum are Ukrainian and international experts, farmers, representatives of state authority, and civil society. The participants will exchange opinions and elaborate joint solutions on the development of a favorable institutional landscape for preserving and increasing the potential of the peasant-farming system in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine to guarantee Ukrainians the constitutional right to self-produced food.

The Forum is to be held in a hybrid format: 1st day – work in the Large Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, Volodymyrska Str., 55, and 2nd day – field trip to those affected by the military aggression farms.
